Spectrum Health Services, Inc. (SHS) has a rich history dating back to 1967. It was originally established as Better Family Planning, Inc., a private nonprofit organization that opened its first clinic, Greater St. Matthews Medical Health Center. Over the years, they expanded their services by opening additional medical health centers in various locations in Philadelphia.

In 1984, the organization officially changed its name to Spectrum Health Services, Inc. and became a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). They continued to grow and provide primary care services, including family planning, prenatal care, pediatric care, and adult health care.

Spectrum Health Services has been at the forefront of community health initiatives. They were instrumental in establishing one of the first in-house school-based health programs for students in West Philadelphia. In recent years, they have expanded their services with the construction of new facilities and the addition of dental services.

Today, Spectrum Health Services is recognized as a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). They continue to serve the medical needs of the residents in the Philadelphia area by offering fully accredited medical, dental, OB-GYN, podiatry, and specialty care health services.
