MEA Energy Association has a rich history dating back to 1905 when it was known as the Midwest Gas Association (MGA). Originally, it started as a gathering of local gas companies in Des Moines, Iowa, to share problems and ideas. Over the years, MGA expanded its territory and membership to include both gas and electric energy delivery companies.

Several significant milestones mark the association's journey. In 1921, MGA hosted its first Gas Operations Conference in Ames, Iowa. In 1938, the Natural Gas Act was passed, granting the federal government authority over interstate pipelines' rates. The association continued to adapt and grow with the industry, hiring its first employee in 1962 and expanding into Ohio in 1987.

In response to regulatory changes and industry needs, MEA became one of the pioneers in developing online learning resources for Operator Qualification (OQ) compliance. They introduced Energy Training Network (now EnergyU) in 2001, offering gas, electric, safety, and liquids learning modules.

In recent years, MEA underwent rebranding efforts to reflect its expanded offerings and vision. The association declared its mission to empower the energy industry through education, leadership development, and industry connections.

Today, MEA continues to provide leading education through online training courses on EnergyU for professionals in natural gas and electric delivery. They also publish a quarterly members-only magazine called "Energy | Empowered" that features member interviews and industry articles.

With over a century of experience and expertise, MEA is dedicated to supporting the energy industry's proficiency, efficiency, and safety through quality education programs.
